Former Konga CEO Nick Imudia commits suicide in his Lagos apartment

Nick Imudia, the former CEO of Konga e-commerce company, died by suicide on June 25 in his apartment in Lagos, Nigeria. Imudia, who was currently serving as the CEO of D.light, a leading solar energy solutions provider, reportedly jumped from a multi-story building

The Lagos police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the state criminal investigation department (SCID) has launched an investigation into Imudia’s death. Prior to his role at Konga from 2018 to 2022, Imudia held senior positions at TCL/Alcatel as a regional director and at Microsoft as a general manager for West and Central Africa.

Tayo Oviosu, the founder of Paga, expressed his condolences to Imudia’s family and the D.light team, stating that he recently met Imudia at a retreat with other CEOs and found him to be a “lovely human and leader”. Oviosu said he is saddened by Imudia’s passing.

Prior to joining Konga in 2018, Imudia held several senior leadership roles at multinational companies:

• Regional Director at TCL/Alcatel, responsible for Nigeria and Central Africa operations. 

• Managing Director at Nokia West and Central Africa, where he served for over 17 years and managed operations across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. 

Imudia’s educational background was also noteworthy, with degrees from Mikkeli Institute of Technology (Finland), Aalborg University (Denmark), and an MBA from Haaga-Helia Business School (Finland). 

Prior to his CEO role at Konga, Imudia was celebrated for his expertise in areas like capability development, operational excellence, systems analysis, and process management. 

When Konga was acquired by Zinox Technologies in 2018, Imudia was brought in as the new CEO to help turn the struggling e-commerce company around. 

So in summary, Imudia had an extensive background in senior management roles at major tech and telecom companies before taking on the challenge of revitalizing Konga as its CEO from 2018 to 2022. His diverse experience and leadership skills were key factors in his appointment and success at Konga.
