How to Check NIN Number: Step-by-Step Guide
Table of Contents
In this post we will go through a detailed Step-by-Step on How to Check NIN Number using various methods and also how to get your NIN if you don’t have one yet.
The National Identification Number (NIN) is a unique identification number issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Nigeria and several countries. It serves as a means of identification and is required for various official transactions. If you need to check your NIN number, verify its validity, or enroll for your NIN number, this step-by-step guide will assist you.
Visit the NIMC Website
Access the official website of the National Identity Management Commission at https://nimc.gov.ng/. This website typically provides a range of services related to NIN registration and verification.
Navigate to the NIN Verification Page
Look for the tab on the website that allows you to verify or check your NIN number. Click on Our Services> Verification > NIMC Verification Service
But to make verification on the website you will need to contact the commission and make the appropriate payments.
But there is an easier way to do this and that is by downloading the mobile app NIMC MobileID
Provide the Required Information
Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can proceed to carry on the verification process and provide the required personal information as requested by the app.
Verifying Your Profile
If you seek to verify your NIN at any time all you need to do is to launch the app and enter your PIN on the lock screen to continue.
Select the “SHOW MY ID” button on the “Home” screen.
Select the information you wish to be verified by the verifier by toggling the switch directly above the QR barcode to either “Basic ID” or “Full ID” on the screen.
This aspect is very important if you really care about controlling the amount of information you want others to have access to.
The verifier holds his/her device above the QR barcode of your profile and waits for a few seconds for his/her barcode reader to read the information stored within it.
Your verified passport photograph and names linked to your scanned mobile ID QR code are then displayed on the verifier’s mobile ID app (they are not stored on his/her mobile device).
Enrolment for NIN
If you are yet to have a NIN number, you can download the enrollment form to get all the requirements.
Authenticate Your Identity
To ensure the security of the NIN verification process, you may be required to go through an identity authentication step. This could involve entering an OTP (One-Time Password) sent to your registered phone number or email address. Follow the instructions provided on the website to complete this step successfully.
Make a Note of Your NIN
Once your registration has been processed, your NIN number will be generated, make sure to note it down accurately. Usually, a temporary NIN slip will be provided immediately after registration and the hard plastic card will be produced at a later date. This number is essential for future reference and official transactions, so make sure to guide it very well.
Seek Assistance If Required
In case you encounter any difficulties during the NIN checking process or if your NIN status is not provided, consider reaching out to the NIMC’s customer support helpline or visiting the nearest NIMC enrollment center for further assistance. They will guide you through the necessary steps to resolve any issues or answer your queries.
Finally, checking your NIN number is a straightforward process that can be done through any of the NIMC enrolment centers across Nigeria. Following the step-by-step guide outlined above, you can easily verify your NIN and obtain the necessary information. Remember to keep your NIN number secure and use it responsibly for official purposes.
