Mark Hurd was an American business executive best known for his tenure as the CEO of Hewlett-Packard (HP) and later Oracle Corporation. Born on January 1, 1957, in New York City, Hurd grew up in New York and Florida. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baylor University in 1979.

After completing his education, Hurd began his career in the technology industry, holding various sales and managerial positions at companies like NCR Corporation, a leading provider of technology solutions, before joining the executive team at the business technology services company, Teradata Corporation, in 1980. At Teradata, Hurd quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the company’s president in 1999.

Hurd gained widespread recognition in the tech industry when he joined Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2005 as its CEO, succeeding Carly Fiorina. During his tenure at HP, Hurd implemented significant cost-cutting measures and focused on operational efficiency, which led to an increase in profitability and stock price. Under his leadership, HP experienced significant growth, expanding its product lines and market share in various sectors including personal computers, printers, and servers.

However, Hurd’s time at HP was not without controversy. In 2010, he resigned from his position following allegations of sexual harassment made by a former contractor. Although an investigation found no evidence to support the harassment claims, it revealed inaccuracies in Hurd’s expense reports related to his relationship with the contractor.
