National Black Dog Day is observed to encourage people to adopt dogs in darker shades. Often times black dogs are not adopted as people prefer the ones in lighter shades.

The black dog day is observed annually every 1st of October, and it is used to promote the fact that black dogs are as equally loving and active pets as the other varieties of color.

This promotes the fact that shades does not affect the personality of the dog, they are all loyal and caring towards humans.
