Terrell Davis Believes Race Played a Role in Handcuff Incident on United Flight
Former Denver Broncos star and Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis has expressed his belief that his race played a role in his recent removal from a United Airlines flight and subsequent handcuffing by authorities.
The incident occurred while Davis was traveling with his son on a flight to Wayne Airport in Orange County, California. During the flight, Davis requested a cup of ice from a flight attendant, but when the attendant did not respond, Davis lightly tapped the attendant’s arm to gain their attention. This led to a verbal exchange, but the flight proceeded without further incident.
However, upon landing, Davis was surprised when FBI agents and sheriff’s deputies boarded the plane and escorted him off in handcuffs. United Airlines has since issued an apology to Davis and his team, acknowledging the incident and temporarily removing the involved flight attendant from duty pending an investigation.
Davis believes that his race played a significant role in the way the situation was handled. He highlighted the importance of having a witness who corroborated his version of events, questioning what the outcome might have been if there had been no such witness present.
Davis’s wife, Tamiko Davis, emotionally shared her concerns about the impact of the incident on their children, emphasizing the challenges they may face due to their skin color. The family viewed the experience as a poignant reminder of the realities they face as a result of their race.
Terrell Davis is known for his impactful career with the Denver Broncos, helping the team secure two Super Bowl victories. His achievements on the field culminated in his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017, recognizing his stellar performance and lasting legacy in the sport.
