Here’s how the Feynman Technique works in four steps:

1. Choose a Concept

Begin by selecting a concept you want to understand. It can be anything from quantum mechanics to a simple idea like how a car engine works. Write down everything you know about the topic in clear, straightforward language.

2. Explain it to a Child (or Beginner)

Pretend you’re teaching the concept to someone who has no prior knowledge of it—such as a child. The goal is to explain it as simply as possible, avoiding jargon or technical terms. This forces you to distill the idea into its most basic components, which helps you identify gaps in your understanding.

3. Identify Gaps and Go Back to the Source 

When you get stuck or realize there are parts of the concept you can’t explain simply, go back to your reference material (textbooks, online resources, etc.) and review those areas. Fill in the gaps in your knowledge so you can explain it more clearly next time.

4. Simplify and Refine

Once you’ve clarified any gaps in your understanding, try explaining the concept again. This time, make your explanation even more concise and straightforward. Use analogies and examples to ensure the explanation is simple yet accurate.
