Chelsea to sign striker Marc Guiu for €6 million
Chelsea is in advanced talks to sign promising Barcelona striker Marc Guiu for his €6 million release clause, according to multiple reports.
The 18-year-old forward has impressed this season, making his first-team debut for Barcelona and scoring in La Liga and the Champions League.
Marc Guiu, who has been with Barcelona’s academy since the U8 level, is highly regarded for his traditional striker attributes, particularly his tall stature as a No. 9.
However, Barcelona failed to secure a longer contract with a higher release clause, unlike other emerging talents like Ansu Fati, Gavi, and Pedri.
Chelsea has engaged in positive discussions with Guiu’s representatives and is confident of completing the signing. The Blues are prepared to meet the €6 million release clause and integrate Guiu directly into their first-team setup rather than loaning him out.
Barcelona has faced challenges in contract negotiations with Guiu, whose current agreement runs until 2025. The Catalan club may make a final effort to retain the player, but Chelsea appears to be leading the race. Bayern Munich has also shown interest in Guiu.
Letting Guiu go would be a blow to Barcelona’s long-term plans, but the €6 million fee would provide a much-needed financial boost for the club, which is currently facing financial struggles.
The loss of Guiu highlights Barcelona’s inability to compete with the financial power of clubs like Chelsea in retaining their young talents.
Despite the potential departure, Guiu recently featured prominently for Barcelona’s B team, scoring six goals in 16 appearances as they pursued promotion to the Segunda División.
His performances have caught the attention of several top clubs, and Chelsea’s willingness to meet his release clause and integrate him into their first team makes them a strong contender for his signature.
