Chile and Uruguay Holds Political Consultations On Bilateral Relationship
On June 21, 2024, Chile and Uruguay conducted their 14th Political Consultations, a meeting underscoring the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations.
Held at the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Montevideo, the meeting was led by Chile’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gloria de la Fuente and her Uruguayan counterpart Nicolás Albertoni. This event celebrated the 180th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Chile and Uruguay, marked by mutual cooperation and shared values.
Chile and Uruguay’s diplomatic relations date back to November 1843, reflecting a long history of collaboration. This partnership has grown stronger over the years, characterized by continuous dialogue and a shared commitment to democratic principles and human rights.
In 2023, the relationship was further solidified when Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou visited Chile to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Chile’s coup d’état and participated in a posthumous tribute to former Chilean President Sebastián Piñera. These events underscored the deep mutual respect and solidarity between the two nations.
