Climate Change Protestors Arrested for Painting Stonehenge Orange

On June 19, a group of around 20 activists from Just Stop Oil arrived at Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Wiltshire, England. 

Armed with cans of orange paint, they began painting the ancient stones, which date back to around 3000 BCE. 

The group’s leader, Ellie Chowns, explained that the orange color was chosen to symbolize the urgent need for action on climate change, as well as to represent the oil that is still being extracted and burned around the world.

As the activists continued to paint the stones, they were met by a team of police officers who had been dispatched to the site. 

The officers attempted to negotiate with the group, but they refused to leave until their message had been heard. Eventually, the police were forced to make arrests, with 20 activists being taken into custody.
