Mark Zuckerberg, born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York, is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist best known as the co-founder and CEO of Facebook, the world’s largest social networking platform. Raised in Dobbs Ferry, New York, Zuckerberg showed an early aptitude for computers and programming. He began using computers and writing software in middle school, creating a messaging program named “ZuckNet” for his family’s home network.

After attending Phillips Exeter Academy, Zuckerberg enrolled at Harvard University in 2002. While at Harvard, he developed a reputation as a programming prodigy and launched several notable projects, including CourseMatch, which allowed students to select classes based on the choices of other users.

However, it was his creation of “Facemash,” a website that compared the attractiveness of students, that gained significant attention and controversy. Despite the controversy, Facemash’s popularity demonstrated Zuckerberg’s ability to create viral applications.

In February 2004, Zuckerberg, along with fellow Harvard students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, launched “TheFacebook” from their dormitory room. The site was initially limited to Harvard students but quickly expanded to other universities and eventually to the general public as Facebook. Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard in his sophomore year to focus on developing Facebook full-time.
