His father was a manager at Ford Motor Company, and his mother was a homemaker. Ballmer attended Detroit Country Day School, where he was known for his high energy and enthusiasm.
After high school, Ballmer attended Harvard University, where he excelled academically and became friends with fellow student Bill Gates.
