Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. was born on February 24, 1977, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Floyd Mayweather Sr., a former professional boxer, and Deborah Sinclair. 

He began boxing at the age of 7 and quickly rose through the amateur ranks. He won the national Golden Gloves championships in 1993, 1994, and 1996.

Mayweather is known not just for being an American professional boxer, but also as a professional boxing promoter, a sport he has engaged in from 1996 to date (although he retired professionally in 2017).

Mayweather turned professional in 1996 and quickly became one of the most successful boxers in the world. He won his first world title in 1998, when he defeated Genaro Hernandez for the WBC featherweight title. He went on to win titles in five other weight classes, including the WBA, WBC, and Ring magazine welterweight titles.
